Mark Zuckerberg reviews the Apple Vision Pro and claims Meta's Quest 3 is 'the better product'

Entering the Apple Vision Pro chat, Mark Zuckerberg has given his official verdict on the Vision Pro, pretty much saying it’s a ‘no’ from him.

In a video posted to his Instagram account on Tuesday, February 13, he said: “I don’t just think that Quest is the better value, I think Quest is the better product, period.”

In his living room, Zuckerberg is being recorded by the Quest 3's video passthrough technology as he discusses the compromises Apple made to fit the most luxurious display into a wearable form factor.

The 39-year-old does have quite a few good things to say about Meta’s product. Since the Quest 3 weighs 120 grams less, he claims it is more comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. In addition, he said that because it had a broader field of vision than the Vision Pro and no tethered battery pack, it allows for more mobility.

Though he says he likes eye tracking for specific use cases and hinted that it will return to future Meta headsets after making its premiere in the Quest Pro, he believes the Quest's option of physical hand controllers and hand tracking for input is superior.

He concedes that the Vision Pro is a superior entertainment device, but claims that the Quest has a better "immersive" content catalogue than Apple — a claim that is technically correct.

Furthermore, the Quest 3 is, in Zuck's words, "like seven times less expensive".

The Vision Pro retails for $3,500 while Meta's Quest headset is $500. The Vision Pro is currently not being sold in the UK but Meta’s Quest 3 headset costs £479.

It isn’t the first time Zuckerberg has disparaged Apple’s headgear.

Following the Vision Pro's announcement at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, in June 2023, Zuckerberg downplayed the threat posed by Apple's entry into the market by pointing out the device's high cost and informing staff members that "our teams haven't already explored and thought of" any magical solutions to the limitations on laws and physics.

The Standard went hands-on with the Vision Pro last year.
