Mark Zuckerberg Had An Awkward Reaction To Billie Eilish’s Billionaire Takedown Speech

Mark Zuckerberg was reportedly left too stunned to speak when he was one of multiple billionaires to be called out by Billie Eilish during her recent acceptance speech.

Eilish pleaded with Zuckerberg and other extremely wealthy folks to “give [their] money away” while accepting the Music Innovator gong at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards in New York City earlier this week.

“We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than ever, especially in our country,” the singer told the audience, which included the Facebook founder and his wife, Priscilla Chan

“I’d say, if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it,” Eilish added, all-but-mouthing the words ‘eat the rich’.

The pop star went on to question how people are able to become billionaires (hint: exploitation) before repeating her call for them to donate.

“Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me. If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give your money away, shorties,” Eilish said, probably making history as the first person to call Zuckerberg a “shortie”.

While Eilish’s speech garnered laughter and applause from some, Page Six reports that Zuckerberg and his wife sat in awkward silence after her remarks, which says a lot since Zuckerberg is already awkwardness personified.

The pair were among multiple extremely wealthy guests present at the event, with filmmaker George Lucas and supermodels Hailey Bieber and Karlie Kloss also catching strays as part of Eilish’s speech.

For what it’s worth, Eilish did put her money where her mouth is, with Stephen Colbert — who presented her with the award — revealing that she will donate proceeds from her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour to various organisations dedicated to climate justice and food equity.

“That’s wonderful,” Colbert said of the donation, which totals $17.5 million (AUD). “Billie, on behalf of humans everywhere, thank you,” he added.

Afterwards, Eilish darted back to her seat to feast on her first menu item: The Rich.
