Mark Wright reveals emotional reason he looked into his family history

Mark Wright has revealed the emotional reason he decided to look into his family history, leading to some big discoveries.

Michelle Keegan's husband appears on the latest series of BBC's Who Do You Think You Are?.

Mark found out some huge secrets about his ancestors doing the show, including the fact that his bloodline leads back to Spain and not Italy as he always thought.

In fact, his ancestors grew up in the same part of Spain he and his family visit now without them even realising the connection - with cousin Elliott Wright even owning a restaurant there, and other family living there too.

But despite all the fascinating news he discovered from doing the show, Mark revealed there was an emotional reason behind his new venture.

Mark wanted to give something back to his beloved grandfather Eddie Wright, who had often tried to look into their past.

He confessed: "My granddad Eddie who's here today with me, all our lives he's guessed where we're from, he's found little bits, and tried to make family trees.

"We've never known if he was right, he thought we were Italian. Nobody's ever known."

Mark went on: "To be able to give this back to him has meant everything."

Asked about his reasons he added: "Obviously I'm interested in finding out where my family are from, and where we originate from, but to do this for him.

"He's done so much for our family my granddad, all our lives. He's our king, to us he's the best granddad you could ever have.

"It's hard to repay him for how much he's done, and this was that moment I could say, before it's too late, I've been able to give this back and it just means everything to me."

Eddie made an appearance on This Morning too, waiting backstage as Mark discussed the show on the sofa.

This Morning airs weekdays and Sundays at 10:30am on ITV.
