Mark Warburton offers Rangers and Celtic 'solution' as QPR boss suggests radical plan

Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton has raised the possibility of his former club and Celtic joining the English pyramid.

The issue has been discussed for decades, but UEFA have always stood against such a plan.

That would likely be the case now, as allowing Glasgow's big two to move to another league system could open the door to a European super league, something the governing body is steadfastly against.

Nevertheless the Queens Park Rangers boss believes it's an option that could help with the Scottish and English games.

Warburton told BBC Scotland: "If Rangers and Celtic came south, as has been talked about for years and years, would that solve a dilemma?

"Would that allow money to be paid to Scottish football's governing bodies to fund the pyramid in Scotland and allow a raising of interest with Rangers and Celtic coming south to the English game as well?

"I'm trying to find solutions, because I think the financial situation is really going to hit people very, very hard.

"In the next three to six months, if we're not careful, we could indeed lose a number of names that have been established for decades.

"And that would be a tragedy for the game.

"If there was an opportunity for them to come in at the second level or the third level I think Rangers and Celtic would take it because they'd see it as a route to the Premier League.

"I think the English clubs would see two magnificent football institutions come down into their competition.

"Come bottom of the Premier League and you win £100million, when Celtic won the title I think they got just over £2million."
