Mark Warburton claims Rangers fans send him up to 10 abusive messages a week

Mark Warburton has claimed he is sent up to 10 abusive messages a week from raging Rangers supporters.

The 55-year-old Englishman is still out of work more than one year after an unsuccessful spell in charge of Nottingham Forest ended.

Warburton spent 20 months at Ibrox but his time in the post ended in acrimony when he left the post amid claims he was looking for another job elsewhere.

And he has revealed he still receives abusive social media posts from Rangers fans.

Warburton said: "The keyboard warriors - social media gives them a platform. It’s not right that you can go on to a platform and volley abuse at someone.

"Some of the comments ... somehow my number was released when Rangers sacked us, you look at and go, ‘the amount of abuse you received is just unacceptable’.

"And I still get it. In a week, I’ll probably get eight or 10 ‘you snake, walking out’ and all this, constant abuse. This is two years down the line.

"I can’t see it’s right that they have a platform to voice such messages, but that’s the world we live in now."

Warburton, who has been linked with the vacant posts at Scunthorpe United and Southend United, insists he will take his time before choosing his next job.

He said: "You have to wait for the right opportunity and you have to make sure you choose very wisely. That’s the key.

"If you’re 35 or 40 years of age, you can afford to make two or three mistakes. I’m 55 – you can’t afford to make too many mistakes, so hopefully I’ll choose wisely when the opportunity comes along. I think age is really important. You’ve got to choose wisely.

"It is about getting the opportunity and it is about choosing wisely.

"I’m not precious that you have to be a manager or you have to be a coach, it’s about finding the role where you can make a difference. If the right opening is overseas, then so be it."
