Mark Walsh to ride Gordon Elliott-trained Delta Work in Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup

Owners Michael and Eddie O'Leary will call upon Mark Walsh to ride leading Cheltenham Gold Cup contender Delta Work.

The Gigginstown House Stud duo have plumped for the top jockey with the seven-year-old's usual partner Jack Kennedy sidelined through injury.

Delta Work, a 6/1 chance for the big race on March 13, has won the Grade One Savills Chase and Irish Gold Cup this season.

"Michael and Eddie they are the bosses they make the decision, I'd say it was a big help he rode a winner for them today," said trainer Gordon Elliott.

"I was just told that he's riding it so I'm happy. He's a world class jockey, he's rode loads of winners for us so it's great.

"He was a short enough price to ride him anyway. I'm very happy.

"We will get him a sit on him somewhere, all being well."

Walsh rode Run Wild Fred (16/1) to victory for Delta Work's owners at Punchestown on Tuesday.

He helped his mount get the better of the Willie Mullins-trained hot favourite Lord Royal in the Grade Three Surehaul Mercedes-Benz Novice Hurdle.

At last year's Cheltenham Festival, Walsh won the Champion Hurdle on Espoir D'Allen for Gavin Cromwell and his principal employer JP McManus.
