Mark Wahlberg tries Scottish accent as he talks 'taps aff' role in Spenser Confidential

Mark Wahlberg was "too shy" to give fans a taste of his best Scottish accent while promoting new film Spenser Confidential.

But the Hollywood A-lister showed he's a good sport by making a hilarious attempt at an impersonation while being interviewed by Ross King for ITV's Lorraine this morning.

In a pre-recorded segment , the 48-year-old was quizzed by the iconic Scots showbiz presenter about his accent skills.

Ross asked if the star had ever "mastered" a Scots lilt, to which Mark name-checked one of his famous best friends, Greenock-born Gerald Butler.

He said: "You won't get me to do my Gerry Butler or my Sean Connery".

But after the Boston actor had a go at a bit of Scots, Ross supported him by joking: "I always say to Gerry, 'when people say recommend a scary movie, I say anything with you doing an accent'."

The Ted star then stuck up for his Scots pal, telling the TV host his joke had been "terrible".

But all is well, movie fans, as Ross then added: "He's a pal, I can get away with it."

Keeping up with the Scottish theme ahead of the screening of the interview, Helensburgh-born Ross told viewers of Lorraine to expect a bit of a treat when the movie hits theatres in March.

He said: "As they say in Glasgow, there will be a bit of 'taps aff' action."

Spenser Confidential, based loosely on the novel Wonderland by Ace Atkins, is a comedy thriller which follows a cop who teams up with his no-nonsense roommate to take down the criminals who murdered his colleagues.
