Mark Wahlberg demands London pop-up rename burger named after him

A pop-up restaurant in London has been forced to rename a burger named in Mark Wahlberg's honour after the actor's lawyers reportedly issued a cease and desist notice.

The Mark Wahlberg burger was introduced by Lucky Chip at the Old Queen’s Head pub in Islington, north London earlier in January. The £9.95 burger is made of a long-horn beef patty, braised beef short rib, American cheese, pickled coleslaw, Sriracha Kewpie mayo and spicy BBQ sauce.

Wahlberg, who owns the Wahlburger chain with his brothers in the US, soon got wind of the release and lawyers for the Ted actor contacted Lucky Chip over concerns it could appear as if Wahlberg had endorsed the brand, according to The Evening Standard

Lev Harris, a spokesperson for Lucky Chip, told The Independent: “We announced the burger a couple of weeks back just in a standard press release. A couple of days later, the [Lucky Chip] founder Ben Denner got an email from Mark’s lawyers with a standard cease and desist notice.

“They said it would be damaging to the Wahlbergers brand that he’s got going on over there. They somehow thought we were encroaching on it.”

The burger has now been christened Dirk Diggler, in honour of his porn star character in Boogie Nights

“The name was changed it to Dirk Diggler because Ben just said he’s had it before it with names he’s used for his burgers,“ said Mr Harris. ”And then it turned into a bit of a story.”

The Independent has contacted representative’s for Wahlberg for comment.
