Mark Viduka reflects fondly on his time working under Kevin Keegan at Newcastle

Former Newcastle United forward Mark Viduka has reflected fondly on his two-year spell at the club.

Viduka arrived at Newcastle on a free transfer from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2007 having excelled in the Premier League at both Boro and Leeds United.

The former Australia international was signed by Sam Allardyce and under Kevin Keegan formed part of a potentially fearsome front three alongside Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins.

Things turned sour during the 2008/09 season following Keegan's departure and the goals quickly dried up.

Newcastle would go on to be managed by Joe Kinnear and then club legend Alan Shearer that season but ultimately, the campaign would end up in relegation.

After failing to score during the 2008/09 campaign, Viduka retired from the game at the end of the season.

And although his time at Newcastle, he looks back on his time at Newcastle - particularly under Kevin Keegan - with great fondness.

"Sam Allardyce was very keen to bring me over to Newcastle, it was a big club," Viduka told the Premier League.

"When we played against them it was always a great atmosphere up there with the Geordies."

He continued: "I loved Kevin Keegan. He was a good guy, I liked him.

"He was very funny. We got on very well and I thought he was great. He used to give us little tips and these little tips you get from these people are very beneficial."
