Mark Ronson has scored the first UK charts double in 2015, with his Uptown Funk single and Uptown Special album taking the top spot simultaneously.

The musician told the Official Charts Company he was shocked at the achievements of his fourth album and hit single. “This is absolutely incredible. I want to thank Jeff Bhasker, Michael Chabon and Emile Haynie, who were there since the very beginning of this record, as well as Alison Donald, Mark Terry and Jason Iley at Sony UK. And finally, thank you to everyone who went out to the shop and bought the CD or pointed and clicked on Uptown Special this week - I really can’t believe it.”

This is Ronson’s first No 1 album as a solo artist in the UK, with his most recent albums - 2007’s Version and 2010’s Record Collection - peaking at No 2. The UK’s last chart double was during Miley Cyrus’ most recent campaign, which saw the singer top the singles chart with Wrecking Ball and the albums chart with Bangerz in October 2013.

Elsewhere in the albums charts, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and George Ezra still hang out in the top 5, and Fall Out Boy – who lead the charts in the midweeks – leap into No 2 with their sixth studio album, American Beauty/American Psycho. Enter Shikari and Belle and Sebastian had new entries at six and nine, respectively.

Following the rush release of her album Vulnicura last week, Björk debuts at No 11, her first top 20 album in eight years. Sleater-Kinney, meanwhile, scored their first UK top 40 album with No Cities to Love sitting at No 27.

In the singles charts, Meghan Trainor’s Lips Are Movin’ is in at No 2, but could not nudge Ronson’s single from the top. Hozier’s Take Me to Church, Philip George’s Wish You Were Mine and Olly Murs and Demi Lovato’s duet Up occupy the rest of the top 5.
