Mark Ronson has always been "driven" - but thinks his addiction to work has stopped his past relationships from going further.
The Uptown Funk singer - who is now engaged to Meryl Streep’s daughter Grace Gummer - thinks his past romances didn't work out because his focus was on building his career rather than finding love.
"Did the relationships not work because I was so driven, or was I so driven because I had a hole in my soul or psyche from something else?"
"What was even driving me that much?" he pondered on the Boardroom: Out of Office podcast.
The Grammy award winning musician admits he used work as an easy way to "run" from other things, but the more success he had, the better things were and work soon became his "worst enemy".
"Those workaholic tendencies became my best friend and my worst enemy at the same time," he said.
"I was having success. So that’s positive reinforcement for being a workaholic too, but I was also using it to run from s**t. I was definitely using it because it was a crutch at times."
Mark is now happy with the 35-year-old actress and he admits there was a time where he was craving "stability and balance" in his life.
He says it took a lot of time for him to "figure out" how best to handle his career and personal life.
He explained: "At some point, if you do want to have a little bit of stability and balance in your life, you have to learn to let go. So I think it took me a really long time to figure it out."
Mark was previously married to actress and model Joséphine de La Baume and also dated Rashida Jones, and reflecting on his past romances, he says he left some people "quite hurt" as he ran through life "blind".
"All that s**t back then, I was just kind of running through blind and leaving some people quite hurt in my wake as well," he added.
The DJ and songwriter confirmed he was engaged to Grace last week, when he told The FADER Uncovered podcast that he had "got engaged last weekend".
