Mark Noble timeless, Gary Neville quiet - England Soccer Aid player ratings vs World XI

David James - 7

Did brilliantly to deny Usain Bolt with a good save from the Olympian's powerful, first-time effort during the first half. Could do little to stop a well-taken penalty by Noah Beck for the opener.

Gary Neville - 6

A quiet first half for the Manchester United legend but started some nice moves with Russell Howard and Tom Grennan early in the second period.

Jamie Carragher - 7

Had some touch-and-go moments with Usain Bolt as has come to be expected in these games. Made some important blocks and tackles during the second half that showed off his experience and know-how.

Mark Wright - 7

Produced a good tackle to dispossess the enterprising Cafu and looked comfortable on the ball before dispatching his penalty past Petr Cech with poise to draw England level on the stroke of half-time. Played a weak back pass to an already-injured David Harewood in the second half that led to Kem Cetinay's goal. Took his penalty well despite it ultimately being in vain.

Mo Farah - 7

Thought he'd won a penalty after going down under a challenge from Patrice Evra in the first half. Was tidy defensively and predictably did most of the running for defensive partners Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher. Came back to play the final minutes as a replacement for Russell Howard

Liam Payne - 6

Only played for 30 minutes but made some neat passes early on though wasn't involved in much after.

Fara Williams - 7

Showed her class with some nice touches during the first half including starting a nice move following some neat interplay with midfield partner Mark Noble.

Mark Noble - 7

Mr West Ham had every touch applauded during the first few minutes of the game and was clapped again when he took the captain's armband following Payne's substitution. Sat back for England and kept them ticking over. Went on a run that resulted in a corner with ten minutes to go after some neat footwork.

Tom Grennan - 8

Tested Petr Cech with a fierce effort from the edge of the box during the first half and was one of England's most lively players going forward. Scored a brilliant goal to put England ahead at the start of the second-half following a lovely through ball from Russell Howard. Missed his penalty in the shoot-out when blazing over.

Teddy Sherringham - 6

Didn't get too long on the pitch but held the ball up well against a fierce World XI defence featuring Cafu, Roberto Carlos and Patrice Evra.

Alex Brooker - 7

Made Soccer Aid history to become the first physically disabled player to take part and did himself proud up against Patrice Evra, Cafu and even Dimitar Berbatov. Managed to pull off some nice passes before making way for Chunkz.

Substitutes

Chunkz (for Alex Brooker 15') - 7

Gave away the penalty for the World XI's opener with a clumsy challenge on Patrice Evra from behind in the box but redeemed himself winning a spot-kick at the other end before being denied the chance to take it.

Russel Howard (for Liam Payne 29') - 7

Set up Tom Grennan to score England's second goal with a lovely chipped pass forward. Was then involved in some neat play with Mark Wright in the World XI box and was denied a goal by a good save down low from Tom Stoltman. Fired his penalty straight down the middle at Tom Stoltman.

Anita Asante (for Fara Williams 29') - 6

Tidy footwork in midfield helped her skip over several challenges. Linked up nicely with Joe Cole and played an important part of England's best period of the game.

Joe Cole (for Teddy Sheringham 30') - 7

Forced Petr Cech into a low save after firing at the near post from just inside the area.

David Harewood (for David James 45') - 8

Quick off his line to stop Usain Bolt running through before coming through an injury scare and carrying on. Couldn't get out to Mark Wright's back pass quick enough for Kem Cetinay's equaliser but still produced some good stops to keep out Robbie Keane.

Stewart Downing (for Chunkz 45') - 6

Strange to see him back in an England shirt but didn't acquit himself during his time on the pitch.

Damian Lewis (for 45') - 8

Presented with a golden chance to put England 3-2 up after latching onto a loose back pass but dragged his effort wide of the goal. Popped up all over the pitch.

Eni Aluko (for Asante 66') - 7

Grew into the game as she motored down the left side on several occasions and led attacks. Tested Stoltman from distance in the second half but the keeper was equal to it.

Aitch (for Mo Farah 72') - 6

Didn't get much of a chance to show off his skills on the ball before the game went to penalties.
