Mark Noble sends message to West Ham supporters ahead of their return to the London Stadium

West Ham supporters are set to return to the London Stadium on August 23 to cheer on their team against Leicester City.

Sixty thousand Hammers fans will be allowed to attend, the first time such a number has been seen at the London Stadium since February 29, 2020, against Southampton.

News of a return to full stadiums was confirmed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday and West Ham have since confirmed they are 'delighted' to welcome a capacity crowd back from the start of the 2021/22 season.

The final match of last season, a 3-0 win over Southampton, was seen by 10,000 Hammers but with the new season just over a month away, 50,000 extra supporters will be able to join them.

Hammers skipper Mark Noble is currently taking part in his final pre-season training with West Ham before he retires and the skipper is delighted by the prospect of playing in front of a packed-out home crowd once more.

"I was at Wembley for the England-Germany game last week and hearing that atmosphere made me think when we can have 60,000 back - the 10,000 we had back for the Southampton game was pretty special – would be fantastic," he told the club website.

"I got a bit emotional at that game against Southampton thinking I’m not going to have many more of these as a player. So it’s going to be lovely to have the fans back, and we are going to need them too."

Noble added: "We’re looking forward to having the fans back with us for these games. The European games at night are going to be special, and what memories for me and my family, to go out on those sort of nights."

It is not just Premier League matches the Hammers supporters will get to watch with West Ham involved in Europa League football from mid-September.

Whether Hammers fans will be able to travel to the away fixtures is yet to be seen.

Travel across Europe will depend on the host country's Covid-related restrictions surrounding quarantine and local laws on large crowd gatherings.

The Europa League group stage draw will take place on August 27 and once the Hammers know where they will be playing the possibilities of an away European trip for supporters will be clearer.
