Mark Millar reveals Celtic v Albion Rovers moment that decided comic book legends football loyalty

Comic book legend Mark Millar admits he always thought he supported Albion Rovers and Celtic - until he saw them play each other.

The Kick-Ass and Kingsman creator was in the stands to watch Rovers' defeat to the Hoops in the Scottish Cup at the Excelsior Stadium in 2017.

The Coatbridge  side, who were in League One at the time, kept the Hoops at bay for the majority of the clash, but a Scott Sinclair wonder strike and goals from Moussa Dembele and Stuart Armstrong made it 3-0 in the final 10 minutes.

The Netflix executive revealed that as each of goal hit the back of the net he realised his heart was with the Cliftonhill club.

Millar revealed a five-figure cash injection in the League Two side this week which has allowed them to purchase a top-of-the-range camera to stream games from Monklands.

The Coatbridge philanthropist told Lanarkshire Live Sport : “I’ve always been an Albion Rovers and a Celtic fan, until about two and a half years ago I went to watch the Celtic v Albion Rovers game up in Airdrie.

“I thought I was about 50-50, but it turned out I was 70-30 because when Celtic scored the three goals I was raging.

“My dad was a big Rovers fan so I really grew up with this romantic idea of Rovers and the community side of it.

“You come to a game and you bump into 200 people you know – it takes half an hour to get out of the stadium."

Rovers are gearing up for a fresh start under new boss Brian Reid in the bottom tier of the SPFL with the clash against Stenhousemuir set to be live streamed via Pixellot from Cliftonhill.
