Mark Lawrenson’s 2018-19 Premier League table: Liverpool unbeaten, Man United third

Newcastle United would have finished the season with more points and in 11th place . . .  if Mark Lawrenson's Premier League predictions came true.

The top-flight season comes to a close this weekend and the title fight is still to be decided, with Manchester City and Liverpool continuing to scrap in their bid for glory.

United can rise to 13th with a win at Fulham, providing Bournemouth lose at Crystal Palace.

It has been a remarkable season for both Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp but, in the eyes of BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson, it could have been either better for both title-chasing managers.

The former Liverpool defender has been making predictions for every Premier League game throughout the season and MyFootballFacts has put together a table of how it would look if he was correct - and both City and Liverpool went the season unbeaten.

In Lawrenson’s alternate universe, City picked up an astonishing total of 106 points out of a maximum of 114, finishing 14 points ahead of a Liverpool side who drew 11 of their matches.

In third place are Manchester United, who Lawrenson predicted would pick up 90 points after losing just four games all season, when in reality they lost nine, while fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur were backed to also lose just four games - when they actually lost 13.

At the bottom of the table, Lawrenson’s predictions saw him correctly predict two of the relegated teams, although Cardiff City picked up 15 more points than he backed them for, and he had Brighton down for relegation instead of Fulham.
