Mark Lawrenson outlines what would shock him ahead of Crystal Palace's clash with Newcastle

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson believes it will be a close contest when Newcastle United and Crystal Palace clash at St James' Park .tomorrow (Saturday).

The two sides are separated by just one point in the Premier League table, with Palace sitting in 13th position with 36 points, while Newcastle are one point and one place below them.

As such, the BBC pundit says he cannot see either side being relegated, but he thinks it will  be a tight game in the north east.

"Newcastle played OK in Monday's defeat by Arsenal - looking fairly secure, but not exactly posing much of a threat," he said in his weekly predictions feature for the BBC website.

Palace midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate has a message for his team-mates ahead of Newcastle clash

"It almost felt like they were trying to keep the score down, which isn't unusual for manager Rafael Benitez.

"I would expect the Magpies to be a bit more adventurous on Saturday, and I can see them edging this one.

The record in sight for Crystal Palace ace Luka Milivojevic ahead of Newcastle United test

"But both of these teams are safe anyway. It would be a massive shock if either of them went down."

Lawrenson is predicting a 2-1 win for Newcastle, while his opponent for the weekly feature - BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills - is predicting a 2-2 draw.
