Mark Lawrenson goes big as pundits agree on Man City vs Wolves predictions

Manchester City have the early chance to put some pressure on title rivals Liverpool and Chelsea as they host Wolves.

Pep Guardiola’s side are in action in the early kick-off (12.30pm) on Saturday as they look to strengthen their position at the top of the Premier League, having moved to the summit last weekend.

City dominated as they eased their way to a 3-1 win at Watford last time out, with Bernardo Silva continuing his superb form this season with another double at Vicarage Road after Raheem Sterling’s opener.

They’ll hope to extend their one-point advantage at the top of the table, even if it is just for a couple of hours, as they take on a Wolves side who have proven a tough nut to crack this season.

Bruno Lage’s side hold the best defensive record in the league outside the top three, although goals have proven hard to come by, and City will once again be the favourites.

But how do the pundits see things panning out for City this weekend?

Paul Merson – Sportskeeda

Merson told Sportskeeda : “I don’t see Wolves scoring a single goal against Manchester City. They can hold on for quite a bit and have been tight at the back, but they just aren’t able to find the back of the net.

“I thought Wolves did very well against Liverpool last week, but they’ve got to take their chances when they push forward.

“Bernardo Silva is at the top of his game and is doing very well for himself. Mahrez, Sterling, and De Bruyne have been untouchable in the team in the past – now, Bernardo Silva is the talisman. Pep Guardiola has been pretty fortunate in that sense.

“I think Bernardo Silva’s the best Portuguese player in the Premier League at the moment. It isn’t even close, is it? Make no mistake – he’s never going to achieve the heights Ronaldo has scaled in his career.

“At the moment, however, you’d be hard-pressed to look past Bernardo Silva. With the talent Pep Guardiola has at his disposal, I’m going to go with a very comfortable victory for Manchester City.”

Prediction: City 2-0 Wolves

Mark Lawrenson – BBC Sport

Lawrenson told BBC Sport : “Manchester City were able to rest a few players against RB Leipzig on Tuesday because they were already through to the last 16 of the Champions League as group winners.

“So, I don't think that defeat or poor performance will stop the momentum City have been building in the past few weeks with a run of five successive Premier League wins that has taken them to the top of the table.

“Wolves don't give much away but they can't score either - they've only managed to find the net once in their past five games. I can't see them troubling City too much.”

Prediction: City 4-0 Wolves

Michael Owen – BetVictor

“I thought City were fantastic against Watford,” Owen told BetVictor.

“It was complete domination and Bernardo Silva kept up his superb recent record. He’s been brilliant this season and there haven’t been many players better than him in the league.

“Whilst Wolves will have been disappointed at the manner of the defeat, a last-minute winner, they didn’t deserve anything against Liverpool. They don’t score or threaten enough and remarkably, that’s now just one goal scored in their last five.

“Wolves are solid defensively and will stay in this game, but City will have too much quality here.”

Prediction: City 2-0 Wolves
