Mark Kerr is the "brave" choice as new Ayr United boss, insists chairman Lachlan Cameron

Lachlan Cameron insists Ayr have made the “brave” call by appointing rookie boss Mark Kerr.

The chairman laughed off any idea he’s plumped for an easy option.

And he reckons fans are getting a born winner who’s been groomed for the dugout.

Lach told the Ayrshire Post: “We’ve appointed from within before to varying degrees of success.

“But it would be totally unfair for anyone to draw that comparison with Mark.

“Since the day Ian McCall brought him here, he has been groomed for management.

“He is a modern player with modern ideas on how to go about this job.

“The analytical side of the game is something that’s always advancing and he buys into that.”

Cameron and his board plumped for Kerr following a near four-week trawl to replace McCall.

Former Dundee boss Jim McIntyre was among those in the hunt.

But Cameron said: “I’m confident we’ve made the right decision.

“In the short term it was a no brainer but also in the long term, Mark is the man for the job.

“We have a dressing room that is the best we’ve seen in years and not a lot needs changed.”

Cameron added: “The process we went through was thorough and Mark deservedly came out on top.”
