Mark Kennedy steps down as Macclesfield boss following relegation English Football League

Former Ireland international Mark Kennedy has stepped down as Macclesfield boss following their relegation from the English Football League.

Kennedy rejected a new contract offer after the Silkmen lost their League Two position because of a six-point deduction.

That was after a misconduct charge against the club relating to the late payment of player wages in March.

The charges included failing to pay players on time and for pulling out of their League Two clash with Crewe on December 7.

Kennedy was only appointed in January and looked to have kept the club up until the points deduction.

But after the independent arbitration panel’s ruling, Macclesfield are going down instead of Stevenage.

Kennedy’s assistant manager, Danny Butterfield, has also rejected a new contract and leaves the club immediately.

A club statement read: “Macclesfield Town can confirm that head coach Mark Kennedy and assistant Danny Butterfield have decided to reject contract offers.

“The club would like to thank both Mark and Danny for their efforts at the Moss Rose and wish them well for the future.”
