Mark Jardine appointed new Deputy Lord Lieutenant for the Stewartry

A new Deputy Lord Lieutenant has been appointed for the Stewartry.

Mark Jardine, the founder of the Dumfries-based community group The People’s Project, has been handed the role.

Mark attended Dumfries Academy before graduating from Strathclyde University with a BA in English and psychology. He joined the family firm Jardine Funeral Directors and was instrumental in the creation of Roucan Loch crematorium near Collin.

He has been president of the Scottish Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors, acted as ombudsman in disputes, set up the Bereaved Parents’ Group, chairman of Dumfries Round Table, a member of Dumfries Devorgilla Rotary Club, a Guid Nychburris Baillie, a trustee of the Gretna Landmark project and established The People’s Project. He was a coach at Greystone Rovers Youth Football Club for many years and is a lifelong supporter of Queen of the South.

Mark has three sons, is married to Ruth and was awarded an MBE earlier this year.

Lord Lieutenant Patsy Gilroy said: “I’m delighted that Mark has been appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant for The Stewartry.

“He brings a wealth of knowledge and fresh enthusiasm to the role. He will be an invaluable asset in representing Her Majesty The Queen in our region.”
