Mark Jackson insists Leeds United U23s are a work in progress despite winning PL2 start

Leeds United's under-23s side got their Premier League 2 Division one campaign off to fast start by seeing off Crystal Palace 3-1 on Monday evening - but head coach Mark Jackson insists his side has 'lots of areas to work on'.

Crysencio Summerville, Liam McCarron and Sean McGurk scored the Leeds goals, whilst Joe Gelhardt missed a first-half penalty, following a handball on the line which saw Palace's right-back sent off.

The game saw competitive Leeds under-23s debuts for McGurk, Lewis Bate, Amari Miller and new second-choice goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson, who saved a penalty in the second half.

Following the game, Jackson was quick to offer constructive criticism to his side.

Talking to LUTV, he said that Leeds' control of the game was something 'as group we're not happy with'.

Jackson added that Leeds should have made more of their player advantage following the red card although he did say that, "it's not as easy as it probably sounds, to play against ten men".

He went on to say: "We need to use our wide areas a bit more and circulate the ball a bit better, control the game a bit better.

"The wide players were influential but could have been more influential if we'd kept the ball a bit better."

Jackson also praised the performance of 17-yeard-old centre back, Kris Moore.

"He's been doing well, has Kris," he added. "He's been training with the group now sine pre-season and last year as well, so we had no doubts in Kris's ability to deal with the situation and the step up.

"He did fantastically well against tough opponents."

Jackson also reiterated that side will be looking to improve as the campaign progresses.

"It's nice to start the season with a win but there's areas that we can work on and get better at".
