Former Rangers hero Mark Hateley reckons that the returning Tannadice crowd played a big role in Dundee United 's surprise win.
It was the first time United's supporters were allowed back inside the ground as they rallied behind their side against Steven Gerrard 's men.
Conversely, it's the first time the Premiership champions have taken to the pitch in front of an away support since the win over Ross County at Dingwall in March 2020.
Hateley reckons the punters gave United the extra push they needed to bounce back from a disappointing opening day defeat to Aberdeen.
He believes the roaring support shone a light on the "lack of enthusiasm" from the away side today.
He told BBC Sportsound: “ Rangers were never at this game.
“It seemed to me that they were focused on other matters; I’m talking about Tuesday, coming up.
“But that is not the Rangers we have seen under Steven. Steven is always focused on every game that is at hand, never looking forward, just resetting after every game.
“It will be a massive disappointment, especially after the midweek game.
"There was a definite lack of enthusiasm, or lack of energy, but what it does is show is the importance of a crowd in the stadium.
“Whatever end of the table you are at, the importance that the crowd played today for Dundee United (was) to keep them going.
“Especially the midfield guys, they were outstanding, they were all rubbing their hamstrings, calves and everything. They put everything into this game.
“That’s what Rangers have done over the period. That’s what has gotten them results, but not today.”
