Mark Hamill says Star Wars fatigue could be setting in

Mark Hamill believes Star Wars fatigue could be setting in with some fans.

The Luke Skywalker actor, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, was quizzed about the failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story at the box-office.

The film – which centres on a young Han Solo – underperformed, grossing $393 million worldwide against a budget of $250 million, not including marketing costs.

“I’m not gonna tell them how to run their business,” Hamill said, ”but is there a possibility of ‘Star Wars fatigue‘? Yeah, I think there is. I’ve experienced it, to a certain degree.

“But they never listen to my ideas anyway, so who needs ‘em?”

Hamill was also quizzed about which Star Wars film was his favourite. Likening the decision to choosing between a favourite child, he eventually gave an answer.

“I guess I’d probably have to go with Empire [Strikes Back],” he said, “only because it was so unexpected to have the protagonist be so soundly defeated, losing the hand and the dad Vader, all of it was pretty unexpected.

“And it was so cerebral: Yoda is such an important addition to the mythology and I thought it was so clever of George, the concept of the Force, so that you could talk about religion and spirituality without making people uncomfortable. So for that alone.”

Star Wars returns later this year for its ninth main-saga instalment, with Hamill returning to the cast as Skywalker.
