Mark Drakeford says restrictions on shops and close contact services could be eased at March review

First Minister Mark Drakeford says stay-at-home restrictions will remain in place in Wales for a further three weeks - but restrictions on shops and close contact services could be eased at the next review.

The First Minister will say that, thanks to Wales’ team effort, cases of coronavirus are at their lowest level since the end of September while one in three adults in Wales has had a coronavirus vaccine.

But there will not be any opening up of the economy at this stage.

Welsh Government did say though that the next review of the regulations will consider the restrictions around non-essential retail and close contact services - like hairdressers and beauty salons. The outcome of that review will be announced on March 12.

There is no mention at this stage of an easing of lockdown on tourism and hospitality.

Health Minister Vaughan Gething said this morning that this could happen alongside the ending of the stay at home rules if figures continued to fall.

More details will be provided at the lunchtime briefing by Mr Drakeford.

The next review will also consider if all primary pupils and some older students can return to schools and colleges from Monday 15 March.
