Mark Drakeford is a 'fully paid up, left-wing busybody' says William Hague

Wales' First Minister is a 'paid-up busybody' according to former Conservative leader, William Hague.

Lord Hague entered Parliament as the MP for Richmond in North Yorkshire in 1989 and served as Welsh Secretary from 1995 to 1997, during the prime ministership of John Major.

He was leader of the Conservative Party for four years but failed to win a General Election and stepped down from the role in 2001.

Mr Hague lives in Wales and was asked about the difference in rules between Wales and England.

Mr Hague told Times Radio: "I think Wales, it's over the top at the moment. Now this is devolution, of course governments are, in different parts of the United Kingdom entitled to take a different view, but I think nightclubs could stay open with vaccine, passport backing passes or negative tests.

"I think in Wales the really ridiculous thing is the £60 fixed penalty notice for somebody who is deemed to be going to work when they could work from home.

"Mark Drakeford, has to be an absolutely paid up professional busybody to think that that is a good idea. How is a police officer going to judge whether somebody ought to be working from home that day? People's jobs differ from day to day. What did they have to go in and do some photocopying, that day or have to do a call from their office that day? How is somebody going to judge that on a fixed penalty notice?

"It's not like a speeding fine, where you're either going over the number or not. So I don't think you have to be an absolute left wing, busy body mentality to come up with that idea."
