Mark Donovan signs long-term contract to remain Chiefs team president

The Kansas City Chiefs have locked up their team president with a long-term contract extension, the club announced on Tuesday.

Mark Donovan originally joined the Chiefs as their COO before being promoted to team president in 2011. Prior to his arrival in Kansas City, Donovan worked as the Senior VP of Business Operations for the Philadelphia Eagles franchise. 2019 marked Donovan’s ninth season filling the post of president for the Chiefs.

“I’d like to congratulate Mark and his family on this well-deserved recognition,” Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said in the Chiefs’ press release. “Because of Mark’s leadership over the past decade, the business operations of the Chiefs are among the best in professional sports, and he and his team have worked tirelessly to create the best fan experience in the National Football League. Mark is an innovative leader and a talented executive who is widely respected in our industry and in the Kansas City community. I am thrilled that he will continue to be a key part of the leadership of the Chiefs for many years to come.”

Donovan is only the fifth president in team history for the Chiefs. During his time with the club, he’s truly transformed business partnerships and growth for the team. From making Arrowhead Stadium a premier sports and event venue to securing new broadcast and licensing partnerships.

“My family and I are grateful for the opportunity to continue our journey here in Kansas City,” Donovan said. “I’d like to thank Clark and the entire Hunt family for their unwavering support and belief in me to help lead one of the NFL’s most storied franchises. I’d also like to recognize all our staff members who continue to push the boundaries to make our organization the best it can be for our fans. To Chiefs Kingdom, we are proud to call Kansas City home and look forward to creating many more memories here.”

The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native has come to call Kansas City his home along with his wife and two children. He’ll continue to be a big part of the future of this franchise on the business side as well as an outstanding member of the Kansas City community.
