Mark Dantonio ‘very excited’ about transfer WR Jayden Reed

Michigan State football fans won’t get to see him until next season, but there’s already excitement building within the program about new wide receiver Jayden Reed.

Reed, a freshman All-American at Western Michigan last season, signed on with the Spartans after deciding to leave Kalamazoo.

At Big Ten Media Days Mark Dantonio told gathered media that the program is, “very excited about (Reed’s) opportunities as he moves forward.” Dantonio also went on to call him an “outstanding young player.”

Reed was a dynamic presence for the Broncos last season with 56 catches for 797 yards and eight touchdowns. He also returned a punt for a touchdown while averaging a shade under 18 yards per return.

Michigan State and Reed applied for immediate eligibility, but Reed announced last week that he would have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules.

Once in East Lansing Reed will reunite with his former high school quarterback from Naperville (Ill.) Central, Peyton Thorne. Thorne was at one time committed to Western Michigan, but MSU was able to lure him away.
