Mark Dantonio ranked #10 best college football coach in the country

CBS Sports has released their coaching tiers list for the 2019 college football season and Mark Dantonio has once again been favorably received by the website and was ranked in tier 2’s ‘proven winners’ category, coming in at #10 overall. Past years had Dantonio ranked #16 and #11, so despite a mediocre season he is still highly respected by football writers, at least at CBS.

Not surprisingly, Dantonio was the highest ranked Big Ten football coach on the list, with James Franklin coming in two spots behind Dantonio at #12. Next was Kirk Ferentz at #14, Pat Fitzgerald at #15, Jim Harbaugh at #18, and Paul Chryst at #20.

Dantonio still gets a lot of credit for his three Big Ten championships, which is the most of any active coach in the Big Ten currently now that Urban Meyer is retired (Meyer also had three). Kirk Ferentz has two championships, and James Franklin has one as well. Fans who stoke the fire of the Michigan rivalry will note that Jim Harbaugh still hasn’t won a Big Ten Championship.
