Mark Cuban says Mavericks to accept Bitcoin next season

The Dallas Mavericks could become one of the first U.S. sports teams to accept Bitcoin as payment for tickets.

Mark Cuban said fans will be able to use the cryptocurrency next season in a response to a question on Twitter on Monday.

Cuban told the Star-Telegram that "it will happen."

He told CoinDesk.com the Mavs will accept multiple types of cryptocurrency. "We will be adding a crypto payment ability for next season. We will accept BTC, Eth, possibly some other currencies. (That's) to be determined," Cuban confirmed to CoinDesk.

The NBA's Sacramento Kings announced they were accepting Bitcoin in 2014.

Cuban is an investor in multiple cryptocurrency companies. The NBA has no authority over the currency its teams accept.

Cryptocurrency are digital assets designed to work as a medium of exchange that uses cryptography to secure its transactions, to control the creation of additional units and to verify the transfer of assets.
