Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg has explained why Liverpool were not awarded a penalty against Tottenham in the first half.
Liverpool fans were left unhappy after the ball struck Eric Dier's arm inside the Tottenham box during the first half.
The incident was, of course, reviewed by Chris Kavanagh in the VAR booth but he decided the on-field decision from Anthony Taylor was the correct one and the penalty claim was indeed waved away.
During Amazon Prime's half-time coverage, former referee Clattenburg explained how the referee and VAR official came to the decision, agreeing that it was not a spot-kick.
"They (Liverpool fans) can feel aggrieved but it's not a penalty kick," he said.
"The ball hits Eric Dier's hand but what you do see is Mohamed Salah, they are both fighting for the ball.
"Salah's hand comes up and it moves Dier's arm towards the ball. What I like from the referees so far is - we saw a lot of controversies with penalties for handball at the start of the season - and now we are not seeing so many which is what we want to see when they are not deliberate.
"Salah moves his arm up which makes Eric Dier's arm go towards the ball."
As Clattenburg eluded to, penalties were being given regularly for accidental handball earlier in the season, despite the introduction of the T-shirt rule, leaving fans aggrieved.
But there now seems to be a more lenient approach in place from Premier League officials, something that has benefited Tottenham greatly in this instance, and what's more, in a huge game with Liverpool and Spurs fighting it out at the top of the table.
