Mark Clattenburg confirms the Premier League team he supports in brilliant Tweet

Ex-Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg has confirmed in a tweet that he supports Newcastle United.

Responding to a fan on Twitter who asked him to reveal his favourite football club Clattenburg replied: “Newcastle United. The best team in the world!"

The Consett born 44-year old left England for the Middle East back in 2017 after agreeing to take over Howard Webb’s position as Head of Refereeing for the Saudi Arabian Football Federation.

However, this revelation will come as no surprise to those on Tyneside as during his 15-years in the English top flight he was unable to officiate Newcastle games due to his homage to the city.

Clattenburg has also previously voiced his fondness for The Magpies as just over a year ago he insisted he can finally now “enjoy” watching Newcastle play after departing the Premier League.

During his 17-year career in England, the Geordie official took charge of over 300 games, brandishing 940 yellows and 48 red cards in the Premier League.

He has also officiated some huge matches including the Euro 2016 final, in which Portugal beat France, and the 2016 Champions League Final where Real Madrid lifted the trophy after beating Atletico Madrid.
