Mark Cavendish will compete in the 2016 Tour of Britain in September in his first appearance since winning a silver medal at the Rio Olympics. The Manxman will face his long-time sprint rival André Greipel during the eight-stage event, which begins in Glasgow on 4 September and finishes in London.
The lineup also includes Cavendish’s Dimension Data team-mate Steve Cummings, winner of stage seven in this year’s Tour de France and twice runner-up in the Tour of Britain. The former world hour record holder Rohan Dennis of Australia will make his debut in the race, which was won last year by Norway’s Edvald Boasson Hagen.
“In Mark Cavendish and André Greipel we have two of the world’s top sprinters,” said the race director, Mick Bennett, “who are both already multiple Tour of Britain stage winners, while we are delighted that BMC Racing Team will be bringing two outstanding time-triallists in Rohan Dennis and Taylor Phinney to the race.”
