Mark Barrott found 391 miles away arrested after murder of his 'kind and loving' wife Eileen

A man who was wanted on suspicion of murdering his wife in Leeds has been arrested.

Mark Barrott, 54, was wanted by police after his wife Eileen Barrott was found dead in the Naburn Fold area of Whinmoor on Sunday.

A huge manhunt has been underway to find Mr Barrott, who was arrested in the Elgin area of Scotland at around 4.30am today. Follow live updates on this developing story here.

He has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Eileen, 50, and will be brought back to West Yorkshire to be interviewed by detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

Emergency services were called to Naburn Fold in Leeds at 6.31pm on Sunday, after Mrs Barrott was found with serious injuries inside the home.

Police confirmed later that evening a murder investigation had been launched and that Mr Barrott was the prime suspect.

Mr Barrott had been seen boarding a train from Leeds to Edinburgh, Scotland, with various suspected sightings following in Aberdeen and Elign, before he was eventually apprehended this morning.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Vanessa Rolfe said: “We would like to thank all the members of the public who contacted us with information, and also our colleagues in Police Scotland for their assistance and support with this investigation.”
