Mark Andrews named 4th-best TE by TD Wire

As the 2020 NFL season ticks ever closer, Mark Schofield and Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire continue their look at the best players in the league at their respective positions. The Baltimore Ravens have been well represented already, with Ronnie Stanley earning the top tackle spot. But Baltimore has potentially one of the deadliest weapons in the league in tight end Mark Andrews, who appears fourth on Schofield’s top-11 TEs list.

In his second season in the NFL, Andrews truly broke out. Andrews caught 64 passes for 852 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns, all tops for the Ravens in 2019. While Andrews was dangerous all over the field, he was the only tight end in the NFL to crack double-digit receiving scores last year, showing just how deadly he was in the red zone for quarterback Lamar Jackson.

“Andrews’ athleticism and frame make him so dangerous in the passing game, particularly in the red zone,” Schofield noted, using a clip of the Ravens against the Houston Texans to highlight his point.

Andrews’ performance earned him a Pro Bowl nod. Though he’s clearly one of the best tight ends in the league right now, there’s so much more potential for Andrews moving forward. Baltimore is returning most of last year’s starting offense but traded away Hayden Hurst, which could see even more targets for Andrews in 2020.

“With his combination of traits and in a well-designed offense that relies on many multiple TE packages, he should be in store for another big year,” Schofield continued.

If Jackson can have another banner year, there’s no reason to believe Andrews won’t rise up this list next offseason and potentially make the claim as the best receiving tight end in the NFL.
