Mark Allen no loss to Rangers after 'strange' Ibrox departure says Kenny Miller as he sends transfer warning

Kenny Miller has queried the 'strange' departure of Mark Allen from Rangers on the day Ross Wilson was announced as his successor.

The former Ibrox striker, who departed the club in acrimony in 2018, worked under Allen 's leadership for just under a year.

Miller has questioned the volume of recruitment under the former director of football's regime and suggested that the new sporting director will want to ensure the heavy turnover of players that has become the norm every summer must be adressed.

Asked if Allen would be a big loss to the club, Miller replied on Sportsound :  "I wouldn't say so, no.

"I know Steven spoke very highly of him. The club's decision to part ways was still strange. I don't know a lot about it but it was quite strange. It was quite sudden, I think he did an interview two or three days before leaving where he was talking about the future.

"Analysing the job that he did - a lot of players were signed, that's for sure. The success of those players will be up for debate depending on who you ask.

"He's moved on. Somebody else has come in now. Do I really think the position is required? Again, every club has their own views on that. Ross was touted for the job before Mark came in so he's clearly been on the radar for a long time.

"It depends on what the job entails. Every club has got their own job description and it could differ from club to club so I don't know if his role is going to be very similar to what Mark's was.

"Mark had to put a scouting network in place, it was something that was sorely lacking for a long time so that's definitely improved since Mark has come in.

"Ross has had a lot of experience at Southampton, working with a very, very good academy and heading up their recruitment.

"There's been a lot of players signed at Ibrox over the last couple of seasons and again, that's not really sustainable. They will have to be a lot clearer with the players that they want, the profile of the players they want, and I can't see them signing 12 to 15 players every summer."
