Mark Allen desperate to challenge for titles after Champion of Champions win

Mark Allen is desperate to challenge for regular titles after his Champion of Champions win.

The Pistol, above, shot past world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, world No1 Judd Trump and defending champion Neil Robertson to capture the illustrious invitational title.

Former Masters champion Allen is eyeing up more big titles after ending his 23-month trophy drought, reports the Mirror.

“I want to win every tournament,” said the Northern Irish potter.

“It’s tough, guys like Neil, Judd, Ronnie and Mark Selby make winning tournaments look easy.

“I work really hard and, if I can pick up a tournament or two every season, I feel like I’m doing well because the standard’s so high.

“I know what I’m capable of and I’ve never shown that on the tour.

“The day I show my full potential on tour is a dangerous day.”

Ulsterman Allen shook off his nearly-man tag after losing in six semi-finals and a final last season.

But the Antrim ace feels he was punching above his weight with off-table issues in the background.

Allen, 34, added: “Me getting to six semi-finals and a final last year, I felt like that was me doing well.

“I had a lot of stuff going on off the table distracting me.

“I was still gutted at the time to get so close – especially when Stevie Maguire beat me in the Tour Championship final – they’re the tournaments you want to win.

“The most positive thing I have to take out of the last 18 months is I haven’t been at my best and I’ve still consistently made the latter stagers of tournaments.”

And Scottish snooker legend Stephen Hendry believes Allen can become a regular in the winners’ enclosure after his run to the title.

“This win could be massive for Mark,” said the seven-time world champion, inset.

“He won’t just be happy with one tournament a year after this, he’ll want to be fighting for those big titles.

“It probably annoys Mark that when we talk about potential winners for big events we never mention him.

“We always mention the usual suspects; the Trumps, O'Sullivans, the Robertsons, the Selbys.”
