Marjorie Taylor Greene says she’s figured out how to ‘save America’, as her other 200+ failed bills die of loneliness

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced on X that she has introduced a new bill called “Making American Elections Great Again” that would completely change how congressional representation is decided in the United States. According to Greene, the goal of this bill is to protect future elections from what she claims are cases of fraud.

One of the main parts of the proposed law would require a new census to be conducted right after the bill is passed. Unlike the current census, which happens every ten years and counts everyone living in the U.S. regardless of whether they are citizens, this new census would ask questions to determine who is a citizen. Most importantly, only U.S. citizens would be counted in the final population numbers from this new census.

Once this citizen-only census is finished, the bill would require states to quickly redraw the boundaries for all U.S. House districts. This redistricting would only use the count of U.S. citizens, which is different from how it has been done for a long time. Currently, House seats are divided among states based on the total number of people living there, including non-citizens.

MTG wants to redraw every political line for no good reason

The stated reason for this major change is to stop what the bill’s supporters call election “theft.” By basing representation only on the number of citizens, the bill aims to make sure that electoral districts only reflect the citizen population. This could help MAGA, but it’s not guaranteed and likely won’t work out the way she wants.

It will be expensive, time-consuming, and probably won’t make as much of a difference as she thinks, because it is based on an idea that United States citizens wanted Trump wholeheartedly, and just couldn’t because some people were able to somehow vote without citizenship. Instead of anything good happening, it will let us know even less about how many people are living in any one place, as the census already asks for citizenship when being conducted, so we’re losing information. Basically, let us know less and spend more money for no good reason. She should just go back to being triggered by cartoons and sabotaging the GOP.

These changes could have a big effect on elections and how U.S. House seats are assigned. Right now, all residents, including non-citizens, are counted when deciding how many House seats each state gets. This means states with more non-citizens might have a larger total population, which can lead to more representatives in Congress. If only citizens are counted, some states with many non-citizens could lose seats, while states with mostly citizens could gain seats.

The bill sets a fast timeline: as soon as it becomes law, the U.S. Census Bureau would have to start the new census right away. After the census is done, states would be required to begin redrawing district lines immediately.
