Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene replied to Democratic counterpart Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), who said she is on a "revenge tour" against her fellow party members after President Donald Trump blocked her from running for the Senate in Georgia.
Speaking to The Hill on NewsNation, Greene rejected AOC's claim, saying "sounds like she's best friends with Laura Loomer too, because that's the same thing Laura Loomer said," in reference to the far-right influencer.
"But it's not true. I put out a lengthy post back this summer about why I didn't want to run for Senate. And I see the Senate is basically where all good things go to die. Go to die. I mean, look at the Senate right now, because of the Senate, the gridlock in the Senate, where no one can get anything accomplished, the government is shut down. And I'm a very serious person, I don't want to go serve somewhere where all of my good ideas and bills I want to work on get completely stopped in a system that I think is utter failure," Greene added.
Ocasio-Cortez, on her end, had said that Greene was criticizing her party had roots in Trump's refusal to support a bid for the Senate.
"People are like 'oh my god, she's saying all these things, what's gotten into her lately.' She's bucking against Trump, the administration. Marjorie Taylor Greene wanted to run for the Senate in Georgia. She wanted to be the Republican nominee. She was gearing up for that statewide race and Trump told her no. Trump said no. And the White House and Trumpland shut down Marjorie Taylor Greene's personal ambitions to run for Senate and she has been on a revenge tour ever since," Ocasio-Cortez said earlier this week.
Greene has fiercely criticized Republicans, claiming in October that parts of Trump's agenda during the second term seem to be "America Last," rather than first.
Speaking to Axios, Greene said "it's a revolving door at the White House of foreign leaders when Americans are, you know, screaming from their lungs."
"If me saying those things are considered breaking with my party, then what is the Republican Party? I thought we were America First?" the lawmaker added.
On Wednesday, Greene again slammed the party, this time because of the party's defeats in New York City, New Jersey, Cincinnati and Virginia.
"Politics is no different than business. Business 101: If you don't deliver what you promise, then don't expect return customers," Greene said in a social media publication.
