Marius Zaliukas given Hearts tribute as club dedicate Hibs win to Scottish Cup hero skipper

Hearts have dedicated their Scottish Cup semi-final win to their late captain Marius Zaliukas.

The Lithuanian captained the Jambos to a 5-1 win over Hibs in the final in 2012 and tragically passed away on Saturday.

The news broke as the Edinburgh rivals contested the semi-final at Hampden, with Zaliukas passing away 11 days short of his 37th birthday.

After Liam Boyce's penalty secured a 2-1 win after extra-time Hearts dedicated the win to their former captain.

A statement on the club's Twitter profile said: "Everyone at Heart of Midlothian Football Club is devastated to learn of the passing of Scottish Cup winning captain Marius Zaliukas.

"A full tribute will follow, but for now we send our love to Marius' family and friends.

"That win was for you, skipper."

The former centre-back also played for Rangers, and the Ibrox club paid a tribute of their own.

They said: " Rangers is tonight shocked and saddened to hear of the death of former player Marius Zaliukas at the age of just 36.

"The thoughts of the directors, management and players of Rangers are with Marius’ family at this sad and difficult time."
