Mariota credits teammates after ‘huge’ win in Seattle

The Falcons weren’t favored heading into Week 3, but they left Seattle with a 27-23 victory over the Seahawks. It was the team’s first win of the season, and helped Atlanta avoid a potentially disastrous 0-3 start.

Following the game, quarterback Marcus Mariota talked about what it meant to finally get a win after starting 0-2.

“Huge,” Mariota said of the team’s Week 3 victory. “To start 0-2 is always tough, you kind of dig yourself into a hole. But, it says a lot about our guys. Their ability to bounce back, and that was a huge win for us.”

We can all groan over Mariota’s blunders in this game, but there were moments where he played well and got the offense going. He definitely needs to be more accurate, and take better care of the football, but these are improvements that should come as the season goes on.

“Seattle did a great job early on of boxing us in, and we made some great plays in the passing game. Once you do that, it looses [the defense] up and our guys up front did a great job,” continued Mariota.

The Falcons QB also took the the blame for the fumbled exchange between himself and rookie RB Tyler Allgeier, stating he thought he could take the ball himself and cut around the corner.

“That’s on me. In that situation, just being smarter with the football. Selfishly, I was trying to go close it myself. I thought I could cut around the corner there.”

Mariota wrapped up his postgame comments by stating this win wasn’t necessarily a relief since he has higher expectations for this Falcons team.
