Croatian stopper Mario Vuskovic has revealed why he chose Hamburg over Celtic in the summer window.
The Croatian media claimed Ange Postecoglou was rebuffed by Hajduk Split in his pursuit of the 19-year-old this summer.
Contrasting reports had suggested that the Australian had called for the Parkhead club to pull the plug on the deal following his arrival.
The likes of Torino and Feyenoord were also keeping tabs on the centre-back.
In the end, the the German side won the transfer race with the Croatian under-21 international on an initial two year loan deal.
It is reported that Hamburg will pay out £1 million per year and have an option to buy at the end of the contract.
Vuskovic has claimed that he held talks with the Scottish Premiership side before deciding to follow in the footsteps of Croat icon Ivica Olic.
When asked by German outlet Bild why he chose the Bundesliga 2 side over Celtic he stated: “It's a big club.
"Mladen Petric and Ivica Olic played here, they are legends in my homeland. My father had spoken to Ivica. And he raved about HSV."
