Mario Tennis Fever brings Nintendo's sports series back with some Super Mario Bros Wonder flavor and a story mode worthy of Dragon Ball spin-off

Mario Tennis Fever.

Nintendo's most famous plumber is returning to the courts next year with Mario Tennis Fever on Switch 2. Announced during the Nintendo Direct for September 2025, the game will launch for Switch 2 on February 12, 2026.

The key new feature Nintendo is highlighting is the Fever shot, a big shot you can unleash after filling a meter. The shot's effect changes depending on the racket you have equipped, leaving effects like big ice patches or mushrooms that'll turn your opponent tiny. There'll be 30 different Fever rackets to choose from, and you can mix and match them with the 38 playable characters.

A host of new modes with some Super Mario Bros. Wonder flavor are also coming. The Talking Flower returns as a commentator in Tournament mode, while Mix It Up mode will have a bunch of special, oddball rules including Wonder effects. There are also online options, and a Trial Tower where you have to complete various challenges. And, yes, there's a motion control mode where you can swing your Joy-Cons for that Wii Sports feel.

But, for my money, the big addition is story mode. A good ol' single-player campaign has historically been the best part of the most beloved Mario sports games. This one sees the entire crew turned into babies, forcing them to train their skills back up as they try to find a way to return to normal. Bizarrely, it's pretty much exactly the same plot of both Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Daima, but hey, it's proven to be a winning formula for lighthearted adventure stories.
