Mario Rosenstock tells how home was burgled while he and family were downstairs

Mario Rosenstock has opened up about the time thieves burgled his home - while he was downstairs with his family.

The Gift Grub star, 49, has spoken about the incident for the first time, as he warned homeowners to be vigilant ahead of Christmas.

The Today FM host said it's believed a gang used a ladder to gain access to the top floor and carried out the burglary in less than eight minutes.

A member of his family noticed one of the thieves flee the scene of the incident which happened at his south Dublin home earlier this year.

He told his radio listeners: "They took everything. The gardai reckon they were probably in and out in about six to eight minutes.

“It does feel like a personal violation. Your family home is the one place you go to get away from everything and when that’s violated, you really feel really bad.”

Mario told how he was watching TV with his family while the thugs ransacked their bedrooms.

He said: "This is the new thing apparently, where break-ins are happening when people are in the house because you tend not to have the alarm on and your guard is down.

“So people should have their alarms on the whole time, even when they’re there."

The comedian said jewellery and sentimental items passed down through generations were stolen by the gang.

It's believed officers at Cabinteely Garda Station are investigating the burglary but no arrests have been made.
