Mario Melchiot picks favourite to win title between Liverpool and Man City

Liverpool had all the capabilities to win the Premier League title this season but Manchester City are in the driving seat now.

That's the opinion of former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot, who reckons Pep Guardiola's side are in line to win a second title in as many years.

Liverpool were seven points ahead of rivals Manchester City at one point in the season and hot favourites to win a first Premier League under Jurgen Klopp.

But Guardiola's men have have closed the gap and are now only two points being the Reds with a game in hand over the Merseyside club.

And Melchiot believes that despite Liverpool's fast start City are now in the driving seat.

The Dutchman told the Express: "I thought Liverpool were going to do it. They had all the capabilities, the distance was so far, I was like 'this is the team to watch'.

"I like Klopp as a manager, it doesn't mean I don't like Pep Guardiola because he plays exceptional football. But I just like the motivation and passion that Klopp shows down the touchline, the reality of the game.

"Then they've slipped up so I now have to put my eggs with City. And the way they've answered all the questions and the doubts, I think City might sprint away with this title."
