Mario Balotelli to be questioned by police after 'paying man to drive moped into sea'

Wildcard footballer Mario Balotelli is expected to face questions from Italian police after reportedly paying a man to drive a moped into the sea.

Balotelli, 28, is alleged to have paid the owner of a local bar £1,800 to strip down to his underwear and drive a blue moped off the side of a the dock and into the water.

But it has now transpired that the former Manchester City and Liverpool forward is facing accusations of 'criminal solicitation and gambling' and police want to talk to him, according to Football Italia.

The bar owner, named as Catello Buonocore, is also facing charges for the abandonment of hazardous waste, as well as two other unnamed persons.

Footage of the incident shows Buonocore wearing only his underpants as he revs up the moped and drops off the edge of the marina, creating an almighty splash in the water.

The video was shared by Balotelli on his Instagram account.

It also showed the crowd who had gathered around to watch the stunt being performed in the seaside town of Mergellina, situated west of Naples city centre.

Buonocore reportedly joked after getting out of the water: “My moped was only worth £540 anyway."

Balotelli is currently without a football club having being released by Marseille at the end of last season.
