Central Coast will appeal the severity of the three-game A-League suspension handed to Marco Urena.
The Costa Rica international received the "serious foul play" ban from the independent match review panel for a challenge on Brisbane's Jay O'Shea on April 28.
The three-game ban consists of the mandatory one-match suspension plus two additional games - with the Mariners appealing the latter part of the sanction.
Urena missed Sunday's 1-1 draw with Melbourne Victory through the mandatory suspension but he is currently also sidelined for clashes with Brisbane on May 12 and Newcastle on May 15.
"The Mariners will appeal the severity of the sanction based on similar challenges and the corresponding sanctions imposed in the past," Central Coast said in a statement.
"Urena's upstanding character and praiseworthy disciplinary record will also be referenced across a career spanning more than 300 matches at senior club and international level."
The Mariners sit second on the table - three points behind leaders Melbourne City and one point clear of Sydney FC and Adelaide United.
Urena has been a key part of Central Coast's superb start to the season with four goals and three assists in 16 games.
