French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen was pelted with eggs as she arrived at a public appearance on the campaign trail in Brittany.
The Front National (FN) party candidate was arriving in Dol-de-Bretagne, just days ahead of the final second round vote, when protesters, holding signs and shouting: "Out with the fascists," launched a barrage of eggs at the far-right politician and her entourage.
A smiling Ms Le Pen, who looked relatively unshaken by the incident, was swiftly ushered inside by bodyguards.
Roughly 50 people were thought to be demonstrating against the FN candidate, who is running on a fiercely anti-immigration platform.
It comes just a day after a ferocious televised debate between Ms Le Pen and front runner independent centrist Emmanuel Macron, who is expected to sweep to victory in Sunday's final poll.
The candidates went head-to-head on issues including terrorism and the euro, attacking each other with, at times, personal insults.
Mr Macron labelled Ms Le Pen a "parasite" and a "liar", while Ms Le Pen accused Mr Macron of being in current President Francois Hollande's pocket and having an off shore bank account - a claim Mr Macron has called "fake news."
More than 60 per cent of viewers found Mr Macron more convincing than Ms Le Pen in the debate, according to a snap opinion poll by Elabe for BFMTV, reinforcing his status as favourite to win.
