Marine Hotel in Troon to get major redesign and refurbishment

The Marine Hotel in Troon is to have a major refurbishment lasting in time for next year's Women’s British Open.

Owner Cannock Troon announced a phased plan beginning in June with the exterior, including windows, roofs and stonework.

Glasgow architects ICA has been signed up to design the interior and internal work on all 89 bedrooms, reception area, restaurant and bar will follow later in the year at the Ayrshire venue which dates back to 1894.

A revamp of the leisure and conference facilities will follow later.

Phase one is expected to take between 11-15 months, allowing the refurbished hotel to be fully operational for the AIG Women’s British Open at The Royal Troon Golf Club in August 2020. The hotel will remain open and operate throughout the renovation works.

Commenting on behalf of the ownership group, Jonathan Gain, CEO of Stellar Asset Management said, “We are incredibly excited that we have reached a stage where we can now announce our plans and commitment to sympathetically restoring this iconic Ayrshire hotel back to its former glory.

"From the moment we acquired the property back in 2015, we were immediately taken by its impressive location overlooking the 18th hole of The Royal Troon Golf Club, not to mention its reputation, importance to Ayrshire and its residents and the wider international golf community.

"Thus, we recognised the need to invest and elevate the hotel to the status it rightly deserves having been the only hotel in Scotland to have retained an AA 4-star status throughout its history.

"Further showcasing our commitment to this project, we are proud to announce that we have appointed award-winning Scottish interior design company, ICA, to deliver a design that exudes best-in-class elegance, comfort and taste whilst retaining a subtle Scottish theme throughout the hotel.”

Announcements on 2nd and 3rd phases - to upgrade the hotel’s leisure and conference facilities - will follow.

Colin Richards, The Marine Hotel general manager, said:“Speaking on behalf of the entire team here at The Marine Hotel we are looking forward to starting this exciting project and are committed to working in partnership with all parties to put the hotel firmly back on the map, both locally and on an international level,”
