Marine engineering firm creates green energy subsidiary

A marine engineering specialist has created a new company to drive eco-friendly marine energy solutions.

Jebb Smith Ltd has formed Oasis Marine Power as a subsidiary to build on its expertise in marine mooring systems.

Oasis Marine Power will be developing the Oasis Power Buoy, a mooring buoy with electrical power supply - initially for installation at offshore wind farms - as its first product.

The buoy harnesses its power directly from wind turbines, providing a zero-emission energy source in a dual function as an offshore mooring and charging point.

Hybrid and electric crew transfer vessels will replenish batteries in the field before returning to port, making them non-reliant on fuel.

Testing is due to commence in the Spring, with commercial launch scheduled for 2022.

Jebb Smith managed to secure funding for its marine designs through the Maritime Research and Innovation UK scheme last year.

The company's director George Smith said: “Our vision for a greener future inspired the Oasis Power Buoy.

"It is already gathering significant interest from wind farm operators as they look to operate in the cleanest way possible, and this greatly increases their ability to do so.”
