Marine announce fantastic gesture for Tottenham supporters ahead of FA Cup tie

Non-League outfit Marine, who have drawn Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the FA Cup, have today announced that they will offer a free match ticket to all Spurs Season Ticket holders for a game at the Marine Travel Arena next season.

The Mariners, who apply their trade in the eighth tier, were drawn at home to the Premier League giants in last Monday's draw after getting the better of fellow non-League club Havant & Waterloovile in round two of the competition.

Spurs will make the long journey north for the game on Sunday, January 10, with the tie having been selected for live TV coverage on BBC One.

However, because of the current coronavirus restrictions and respective tier system in place, Spurs fans will not be allowed to travel to the game.

With that in mind, Marine have made the decision to offer a free match ticket for the 2021/22 season to any Spurs supporter that would be interested in making the trip to the Marine Travel Arena.

A statement released by the Merseyside club on Wednesday morning said: "Since the draw was announced, Marine has been inundated by groups of Spurs fans coming to the Marine Travel Arena to take photographs of our proud stadium that their heroes will be playing at.

"It has been an incredibly tough year for everybody in football. For Marine fans, we have had a once in a lifetime FA Cup run but sadly the ties against Colchester Utd, Chester, and Havant & Waterlooville had to be played behind closed doors.

"This is devastating for the supporters of Marine and has also severely affected the revenues we would have otherwise received.

"Likewise, Tottenham Hotspur fans have not been able to attend their games and have missed their team's rise to top of the Premier League. Spurs fans also are not allowed to attend the FA Cup match due to the pandemic.

"As a result of this, Marine Football Club announce that they will allow entry next season free of charge to one Marine league game to all Spurs season ticket holders.

"This will allow Spurs fans to have the chance to attend the ground having missed out this time and will strengthen that bond between the clubs.

"An email should be sent at least 48 hours before any league game next season with your name and season ticket number to fans@marinefc.com stating the game you wish to attend. Instructions on ticket collection will then be provided."

Though this news will not allow Spurs fans to see their team kick-off their 2020/21 FA Cup campaign, it does act as a fantastic gesture from Marine, who would have been able to secure a great amount of income had away supporters been allowed to attend.

Nevertheless, Spurs supporters, as outlined above, will be able to watch the game from home live on the BBC.
